My name is Libby. I am an artist from Raglan.
I trained as a teacher in the early 1970s and took art as my major, learning under the guidance of Brian Gartside and alongside Friedensreich Hundertwasser.
I have dipped in and out of the art world, competing with the demands of employment, being a single parent, living in different locations and then returning to full-time academic study at the University of Waikato in 2003.
Since 2005, I have been able to find time and space to re-engage in painting.
I have a long and close relationship with Raglan, a coastal beach town located on the west coast of the North Island. I have historical family connections to Raglan as well as having lived and worked there for 20 years. Raglan continues to have a strong pull on my heart and artistic ambitions. I love the black iron sands, the dramatic colours, the coastal landforms and the prevailing westerlies which create such immense and changing skies.
I now live and paint in Hamilton with regular visits to Raglan to refresh my visions.
